Oriental Mindoro Jamboree
November 12, 2005

hosted by
the Golden Isle Riders Club and the Provincial Government of
Oriental Mindoro through the Provincial Tourism Office

This was a Jamboree with a difference.  The first to include a RORO ferry as part of the ride. Due to the extra expense of the ferry and the fact that attending for one day was not very practical we did not expect a huge number of riders but the numbers were certainly big enough to cause quite a stir.

The main group formed up at Lunetta Park along Roxas Blvd then moved on to reassemble at the beginning of SLEX where I and sure the PNCC escourt realized they had a big job on their hands.  Actually I was quite surprised at how well the PNCC riders managed the job considering they have very little experience of marshalling big groups of bikes.

I waited at Petron SLEX to join up with the main group as they passed.  Waiting at the off ramp I took photos until I thought they had all passed then put the camera away and started the bike.  That's when I discovered that only about half had passed.  There was a second, possibly bigger group that I hadn't seen until I was pulling out of the gas station.

At the end of SLEX the riders regrouped and moved on to Star Tollway where one again nearly 300 bikes rode in staggered formation.  When we reached the end of SLEX we were welcomed by the Batangas Tire Burners who were our guides and escourts to the Ferry terminal.

Over 260 bikes were loaded onto the first ferry where the captain remarked that he had never seen anything like it.  He said he would only see this once in a lifetime. (If we go back next year I bet it will be bigger).  The ferry was designed for maybe a maximum of 50 vehicles and their passengers so the ship was very crowded with over 300 bikers on board but it was a pleasant two hour trip to Mindoro.

When the bikes all regrouped at the ferry terminal they were met by our hosts the Golden Isle Riders Club who escourted them to the even venue.

The Caltex sponsored and organized adventure rides kept most riders busy riding around the tourist spots and beautiful scenery of Mindoro and then in the evening everyone had a great time at the San Miguel sponsored party.

We can chalk up another big success and look forward to the next MCPF event
